Château Rauzan-Ségla 2003

Another Christmas wine, this one a second growth from Margaux. Opened to big aromas of berries, plum, cedar, violets, fruitcake, nuts, spice and some earthy undertones. On the palate it showed very smooth tannins, a nice streak of acidity and a creamy texture. It did feel a touch young and certainly could do with further cellaring. Overall quite an elegant and slightly old fashioned Bordeaux.

Louis Latour Nuits St Georges 2005

After our Christmas seafood feast, we opened to ease into Christmas night. After a few hours decanting the nose showed rich berries, sour cherries, anise, forest floor, tomato leaf, minerals and some spice. On the palate it was well balanced with sour cherries dominant. Acidity was quite robust and tannins too. While well made, this pinot seemed a tad green and young, and definitely needs some bottle ageing, probably 5 years plus.

Chateau Grand Meynau Bordeaux 2006

Part of a hamper I recieved from my parents, this Bordeaux showed aromas of blackberry, plum, vanilla, oak and some earth. On the palate it was quite smooth and well balanced, with tannins soft and oak judicious. Overall this is a solid, faultless and good value wine, which I believe sells for around $15.
