La Ciboise

A little dinner last night with just a few bottles. Phil grabbed a Chapoutier La Ciboise Coteaux du Tricastin Blanc, which was delightfully crisp and fresh. A nose of citrus and blossom. The palate is fresh, nicely mineral and has a long clean finish. It is a blend of 20% Bourboulenc, 20% Grenache blanc, 20% Clairette and 40% Marsanne, apparently. Another great cheap French wine.

Then to some Pommery NV Champagne, which was good on the bouquet, but lacked the beading length you expect from most Champagne - a bit poorly carbonated. My last glass went flat.

And to finish some Seppelt Jaluka Chardonnay, 2003 I think. Big nose of citrus flavours, smokey, fishy, hint of oak with a mid palate highlighting apple and peach, balanced by a mineral acid backbone. This wine would not appeal to the masses, but I liked it - more individuality, more Terroir.
