Chateau de Carles Fronsac 1998
This Bordeaux from Saillans, Fronsac opened to a rather fine bouquet of dusty fruit, earth, cumin, anise, mocha and a touch of mint. On the palate it showed relatively deep structure, with fairly big tannins, making it rather inky and dry. Oak was evident but fading, and the finish fairly dry and grippy due to the tannins. Although already 9 years old, this wine probably needs more bottle ageing as the tannins suggest. Nice to try in another 10 years or so.
