Serge Dagueneau Pouilly Fume 2004

A gift from Simon and Heike, this Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly-sur-Loire had a soft smokey bouquet of gooseberry, pineapple, blackcurrents, juniper, green-branches of some kind and some nuts. On the palate it was sour-savoury fruit, with a waxy, chewy mouthfeel and slatey-minerality. Overall this was relatively complex and austere to a degree, and didn't need much chilling. Certainly another great example of French SB craft and terroir, making for a wonderfully unique wine.
