Château Lafon-Rochet St-Estèphe 2005

Another Friday evening and another Bordeaux. This time a 4th growth Grand Cru Classe, from vineyards adjacent to Laffite-Rothschild. After a quick decant the nose showed deep cassis, black fruits, tobacco, Cabernet leaf, milk, bitter chocolate, toffee and some licorice. On the palate were prominent tannins, which did drop in and out, to show quite a refined structure of creamy deep pureed fruits, with interesting secondary and tertiary flavours just pushing through. Did finish quite long and grippy, but alternatively superfine and milky. Overall an interesting wine, which does have depth and character, but does need some time to settle and develop.
50+4+14+17+8 = 93/100
