Gibbston Valley Pinot Gris 2006
I picked this up, not so much as a big fan of pinot gris, but more as a fan of the maker's pinot noir, which I had a year or so ago and found excellent. Opened to a delightful and slightly odd bouquet of candied pears, anise, sherbert and some savory floral notes. On the palate it was well balanced, with slippery pear fruit, minerals and a slight savoury and dry-ish finish. This was quite an elegant wine and one of the better non-French and even NZ examples of the variety I have tried to date. A great buy at $19.
