Telmo Rodriguez LZ 2006
And then to some Rioja. This wine, which is un-oaked tempranillo, showed quite a sweet and candied bouquet of cherries, marzipan, raspberry licorice and some earthy notes. On the palate it was quite light, almost pinot-ish in weight, with initially sweet cherry notes, but did settle down to some savory and dry-ish tannins. Overall it was quite refined and easy drinking, although it did lack the depth you would find on most oaked Riojas. A bit of a 'ladies' Rioja perhaps. Overpriced at $29.
