On the palate it seemed initially muddled and confused, but after a good airing it did compose and tighten, most notably on the final glass. Irritating as that was this is a fine and reasonably cheap Pomerol which is just good value at $55. Tannins were smooth and finish elegant. Although not a big wine it was quite fine and nicely crafted. Well worth the price. This low-mid priced Paulliac opened a little green and volitile, but settled a little to show a lot of blackberry with some blueberry. Also were greenish wood notes - slightly unpleasant. The palate was a touch disintegrated and didn't quite resolve. Tannins were quite green and acidity rather fresh. Overall I couldn't see this improving much. Opened rather locked up, but did slowly open to show cherries, kirsch, strawberry, graphite, violets, licorice, earth and oak. The palate was a touch hot with alcohol just under the surface, but fruit was deep and tannins silky and a bit green. The palate was rich and a little fat, with sweet but not sickly fruits over saline-ish mineral and stone notes. Long lingering finish made this the finest Mosel I have had to date. The bouquet initially showed bright fuzzy raspberry, but settled down to reveal black fruits, cassis, incense, chocolate, spice, cedar and vanilla. On the palate it was quite dense and concentrated with clear fruits over fine mineral and tannins. Very well balanced, pure and solid this was quite a well built Pauillac. On the bouquet it showed blackcurrant, cranberries, liquorice, meat juice, soft oak, florals, vanilla and warm earth. The palate was very elegant, with rich black fruits over superfine minerals and soft tannins, finishing slightly creamy. Structurally it was quite broad and rounded but not flabby.
